A better use for a Bumble Bee?

I’ve been thinking about introducing some new material to my saturday superhouse routines.

I was going through my bag of tricks for inspiration and came across my bee puppet. You know the one, “…and on that farm he had some… SOME.. BEEEES – that’s right he was a Bee Keeping Farmer!!” – I figured that there must be more mileage I can get out of that bee puppet, there MUST be some children’s songs about bees, surely!

Of course, thanks to the wonders of the internet it took me less than five seconds to find the above video, give it a watch and then come back to me…

at first

Upon first viewing I thought it was great; simple melody, simple actions, plenty of repetition and best of all, it’s funny!

but then…

I thought about how important bees are to maintaining biodiversity and what a hard time they’ve been having lately, so should we really be encouraging children to catch bees and then kill them?! I’ve always taught my son that we need to look after the bees, I don’t want to be Rainbow Phil The Hypocrite now do I?!

Or am I over thinking this whole thing?!

After all, a lot of nursery rhymes come from much darker places than this

How about Goosey Goosey Gander, for example, where an elderly gentleman is severely assaulting for not participating in a religious activity, he could end up with a broken hip, or worse – it’s messed up!

So maybe…

Maybe singing a silly song about squishing a bee isn’t all that bad… I don’t know, I’m on all conflicted about the whole thing!

let me know if you would like to sing the bee song at saturday superhouse by leaving a comment on the Facebook post below!
